How can I be fashionable and still be “me?”
Believe it or not, this is the number one question I get almost every day. Like many other people, you probably wonder how I look stylish and maintain my authentic personality.
Do you find yourself constantly asking this question? How do I do it all without following fashion trends? How do I do it the right way?

Lucky for you, I care about you, and I care about making sure that you look your authentic self. It is my job. So today, I am sharing a few tips on how you can maintain a stylish wardrobe and still have your authentic personality shine through it.
- Find you: Take the time to understand yourself, your likes, preferences, and core values. Also, consider how your culture and belief influence the type of clothes you wear. What kind of personality do you have, and how do you want to showcase that personality every day. As you identify these elements of yourself, you start forming a more straightforward narrative around the clothes that should and should not be in your closet. You will become more intentional about buying clothes that reflect and showcase these things that make you you, not the things that everyone around you wears or has told you are good for you.
- Find your style personality: I want you to take some time to write down or point out the different types of style personalities you currently admire. Ask yourself why you like them; is it because it’s simple, minimalist, or colorful? Or maybe it is because it’s a little extra, etc. Identify the things you currently love about your style and other style personalities, find those elements, and note them. Once you identify this, it becomes easy to see how you can start incorporating these elements into your closet in your own unique way. You do not need to copy and paste. You now have a starting point and some inspiration to get you going, so find those individual elements and use them in your own way.
- Find what suits you: If you don’t know what works for you or what looks good on you, how can you effectively understand what to buy, what to wear, how to put an outfit together, or know which new things to try? You need to figure out what works for you before you do anything else. How? By learning. Learning about yourself, who you are, what makes you unique, and what makes you happy. Learn about your body shape and how to dress for it, which cuts, patterns, shapes, and styles to wear and how to wear them. Take time to learn which colors suit you and learn about your own unique personal style — what you like and dislike, what feels like “you,” and what doesn’t. Read books and articles on the internet or hire a Personal Stylist to give you one-on-one, personalized assistance and advice.
- Try new things: Many women are afraid to try something new — whether it’s a new color, pattern, cut, or style. Part of this stems from knowing whether or not it suits them. The other part comes from fear and/or lack of confidence. Trying something new is risky and scary, but how will you ever know how fabulous you would look if you never tried? Trying new things allows you to grow and evolve and get better and better. The only way to overcome the fear is to just do it. If you know what works for you and what doesn’t, there’s a good chance you’ll try something new, and it’ll look great. If, on the other hand, it doesn’t, well, then, no biggie — at least you tried. Just make sure no one took photos.
